On Monday, we hosted the Polish Agricultural Advisory Centre and General Directorate for Environmental Protection to discuss agricultural peat soils. Peatlands occupy 4% of Poland, but like in Ireland, have been drained for farming—70% of them are used as hay meadows or pasture.

The curlew is one of our most iconic species and we have a huge challenge ahead if we are to stave off the extinction of this beautiful bird. This week I met some of the team involved in our €25m Breeding Wader EIP as they prepared 30 ‘headstarted’ curlew chicks for release. 👇
