Many known best practices exist for de-escalating tense protests, fostering dialogue, preventing disorder from lasting weeks or months, and averting violence.

They don't always work. But too many US universities—and the police units they've brought in—aren't even trying them.

The number of people per day passing through the Darién Gap is at its lowest point in over a year (except for December's holiday dip), according to a #Panama government statement covering April 1-17.
