๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽคThe Reading - Love this passage that Hanae reads from her book, when both the poet and critical thinker in her come out! Note how she realizes that the tools from which she draws strength are not necessarily western but indigenous, ancient, from her own North African roots.๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“šโ“The Q&A - That's Maya, who bravely joined Hanae on stage.๐Ÿ‘๐ŸฟDuring their conversation, Hanae discusses her beginnings as a writer; her mother was a major influence! Writing has helped her to make sense of difficulties in life, such as grief, to the point of being lifesaving.๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ™๐ŸฟIt was an honour to host you, H, at the Blackhurst CC last night. TY for introducing your book ROSA PARKS:BEYOND THE BUS to Toronto. Keep on educating the world about Ms. Parks's life and legacy - the world needs it, especially from one who embodies Ms. Parks's lessons.โœŠ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธH delivering remarks on Ms. Parks's personality and on her life beyond the bus. In the 1930s, well before her famous act of resistance on the Montgomery bus,Ms. Parks was documenting the stories of Black victims of rape in Alabama. Her life was devoted to activism early on.๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธMore from H.H. on Rosa Parks, incl. her little idiosyncrasies, what she adored (gospel music, cookies), her lessons. She believed that fear was the origin of racism. Also on the moments that Lady H and Ms. Parks shared - having tea, going to church, hosting gospel brunches.๐Ÿ“š

A Different Booklist (@adfrntbooklist) 's Twitter Profile Photo

๐Ÿ“šโ“The Q&A - Some Sunday inspiration from Friday's presentation. Rosa Parks loved gospel music, was a deacon at her church, and she learned about other religions including Judaism and Hinduism. As H puts it, "She didn't just read a book; she actually went to the churches."๐Ÿ“š

A Different Booklist (@adfrntbooklist) 's Twitter Profile Photo

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸฟMore to enjoy - Miguel's intro and beef with the usual comparison between Canada's Viola Desmond and Rosa Parks, how Ms. Parks became a resident hero at the OM, the signing. If you missed out, catch author H tomorrow at 11am at the Blackhurst CC! #RosaParksBeyondtheBus๐Ÿ“š
