I love how the headline is parroting one of russia’s most insidious propaganda narratives: that it’s only personally putin who’s brutal and bloodthirsty and at fault. That russians themselves a little uwu babies stuck in a totalitarian regime apparently brought to them by aliens.

In Ukraine, the mood today feels raw, tense, and urgent. Kyiv feels less safe. And yet the discussion in the West carries a sense of abstraction, an ongoing conversation that could keep going. It needs to move from airy abstractions to urgent reality. My take:

In Toronto, across from TIFF, Ukrainians painted a beautiful mural last week. Ukrainians don't destroy, they create. They hope. They communicate. At some point this weekend it was destroyed, painted red as if a sea of hate was supposed to drown out Ukrainian voices. But
