The BOA, The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh have produced guidance documents for hospitals when setting up a new MSK robotic surgical service, and a guide for patients on robot-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty. All are available on the BOA website at boa.ac.uk/robotics
Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are among the most common knee injuries in professional athletes, with an incidence in females up to eight-times higher than their male counterparts. #ACL #WomenInSport #BJO Fabio Mancino Andreas Fontalis Prof Fares Haddad ow.ly/SVXm50QIbC3
This large-scale study compared the LOS and discharge dispositions of patients undergoing robotic arm-assisted THA with those undergoing conventional THA at a single, high-volume, tertiary centre. #Robotics #THA #BJJ Andreas Fontalis Fabio Mancino Prof Fares Haddad ow.ly/EolV50QJLML

Thank you The Bone & Joint Journal!!! Very grateful to the Freemasons’ Hall, the Arthritis Research Trust and the The Royal College of Surgeons of England for their generous support through the Freemason’s Royal Arch Fellowship with support of the Arthritis Research Trust 🙏 My heartfelt thank you to all my co-authors! 🙏
Prof Fares Haddad Andreas Fontalis UCL Div of Surgery UCLH Great study. It raises the question whether current PROMs are actually sensitive enough the measure differences that might actually matter to patients. This a similar outcome to earlier generation CAOS - ie more accurate, but similar PROMs.

Robotic arm-assisted revision of UKA to TKA was associated with comparable intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, limb alignment, functional outcomes & complications to primary robotic TKA. #BJJ #Knee Fabio Mancino Andreas Fontalis Mr Ahmed Magan ow.ly/H2bg50SKKHl
While the level of dissatisfaction after TKA is estimated at just 10%, this still means that more than 8,000 patients annually in the UK & more than 70,000 in the USA remain unhappy after TKA. #BJJ #Knee #Arthroplasty Fabio Mancino Andreas Fontalis Prof Fares Haddad ow.ly/rGpe50SN0i0
