🌍 Over the past 12 months, global #temperatures have been the highest on record. Increasing temperatures have a direct impact on the #labour markets: heat exposure ⬇️ #productivity, ⬆️ #absenteeism, ⬆️ the risk of work-related #accidents & ⬇️ the functioning of machineries.

Excited for a 2-day deep dive into the Nordic model of collective bargaining at the mediation offices meeting in Sweden. After a decade of study, there's still so much to learn!

Employment data for Italy show that the number of employed people is at an all-time high. Great result! but In evaluating it we must consider that even in DE and ES employment in July was at its highest. The problem is productivity (preliminary data for DE are bad)

What a fun read, this interview with Nobel Laureate (and my former colleague) Gene Fama. "All of economics is a behavioral science. The difference is whether you think the behavior is rational or irrational." ft.com/content/ec06fe…

Follow the thread 👇🧵

Interesting piece by Ufuk Akcigit. The decline in public R&D spending may also have contributed to lower productivity growth, a point made by two really cool recent papers.

Our response to Neumark's 2nd replication of our 2010 paper. JNR falls prey to problems with a TWFE model when using 1990s data. A clean DiD event study or just even data after 2000 (with most min wage increases) shows same thing: little effect on jobs. nber.org/papers/w32902 1/
