We strategized.
We dreamt.
We recommitted ourselves.
We cared for each other.
And we had fun!!
There could not have been a better way to illustrate the #PowerOfWE than the remarkable openness & creativity that sparked from our UNDP Africa #OfficeRetreat .
As we close off our UNDP Africa #officeretreat , I would like to express how grateful I am to have such a fantastic team
Each & every one is committed 200% & the past 3 days have reinforced the bonds that make us unstoppable in accelerating sustainable dev in Africa
#PowerOfWE
Fruitful meeting w/ Amb. Ahmed Abdel-Latif, 🌐Cairo International Center for Peace DG & Aswan Forum ED
We explored collaboration on Preventing #ViolentExtremism & strengthening Peace-Dev Nexus ahead of #AswanForum2024 . Increasing private sector engagement in this key area is one of our joint priorities
Great spirit and reflections at today's Regional Bureau for Africa's staff retreat. Proud of UNDP Africa's work to support countries through innovation & partnerships incl. #digitaltransformation & access to clean energy for Africa's development.
Today, we received our Administrator Achim Steiner at our #OfficeRetreat in #NewYork .
He inspired us with rich personal stories & a deep reflection on the importance of:
➡️authenticity
➡️courage
➡️resilience
➡️ #PowerOfWE
A pleasure to have Achim Steiner at our UNDP Africa #OfficeRetreat in #NewYork .
Thank you Achim for inspiring us, reminding us that great teams:
🔹have wealth of ideas
🔹know they belong to a larger family
🔹connect remote communities & make impact
#PowerOfWe
At UNDP Africa, our moonshots are:
🔸50M ppl out of poverty
🔸150M ppl access clean energy
🔸400M ppl participate in elections
🔸 $100bn in dev funding
And we are well underway to reach them!

We start our retreat in #NewYork on the theme #PowerOfWe -with powerful words of encouragement from our Reg.Director @AhunnaEziakonwa.
Indeed, UN Development we are committed to serving ppl untouched by dev't. We can only conquer the world🌍& bring hope to millions if we work together.
Looking fwd to 3 days w/UNDP Africa family in #NewYork retreat
I’d like to reflect on
🔸our own story
🔸why we believe we have what it takes to bring hope to millions in Africa
This is the essence of @UNDP: ppl ready to dedicate their lives to improve those of others
#PowerOfWE
I want to tell you about my mother.
Because she was a girl, she could not study beyond primary school & I cannot fail to mourn at what the world has lost
How many talents have we buried?
As long as I work for United Nations, I will advocate for no one to be denied access to #education
Listening to everyone at United Nations #AfricaDay event, I feel proud to be African
Everywhere in 🌍, you can find African solutions
Young people on the continent are ready to go to the next level. And our support needs to be comprehensive, from electricity to tech labs
#YearOfEducation
Education needs to be adapted to needs of 21st century & to the needs of the continent
🙏🏾 Fatima K. Mohammed 💎 African Union Mission to the UN for stressing on the need to decolonize #education during United Nations #AfricaDay ‘Bridging the Education Skills Gap’ Intergenerational Dialogue
#YearOfEducation
As Jude Opima QuestLyft highlighted, we need accessible edutech platforms for young Africans to bridge the #education skills gap
This is why UN Development’s #timbuktoo initiative is investing in #UniPods in universities, edtech hub +more across Africa to scale up innovation
#AfricaDay
“Teachers have critical role in shaping the future of education in #Africa . We need to invest in training programmes for teachers to use #AI in learning”~ noted Jude Opima QuestLyft at our joint #Africa Day #IntergenerationalDialogue .
#YearOfEducation
I fully agree w/ Epsy Campbell Campbell at #AfricaDay event at #UNHQ :
The use of inclusion models in universities, such as quotas, are critical to support students of African descent. We need to act beyond talking about rights.
We need investments to move #FromLearningToEarning
I echo Amina J Mohammed’s powerful opening of #AfricaDay Intergenerational Dialogue ‘Bridging the Education Skills Gap’:
For Africa to meet #SDGs & #Agenda2063 , we need to invest in #education .
We need more, we need scale & we need it urgently.
Change can happen & is happening.
“ #Education is a major driver of sustainable development. Let’s leverage opportunities like #digitalization to improve Africa’s educational system”~ noted United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed at #AfricaDay #IntergenerationalDialogue .

Today UN Development & AFRICATALYST launched a joint #AfricaCreditRatings initiative during African Development Bank Group Annual Meetings in #Nairobi .
The initiative will support African countries in negotiating less subjective credit ratings & ultimately save up to $74 million
👇🏾My message at the event
African countries are not where they would like in terms of sustainable dev because they have to borrow int’lly at very high price
This is why UN Development + private sector want to find solutions twd less subjective credit ratings
