Yesterday, we along with YUVA & other CSOs submitted a petition to GMDA on the #GuwahatiMasterPlan2045 - which has many issues. Key demands: Make the draft plan in Assamese, Reopen public consultations, Release existing land use data, & Provide detailed proposed land use info.

#GuwahatiMasterPlan2025, #GuwahatiMasterPlan2045, & #GuwahatiComprehensiveMobilityPlan don't mention flyovers to reduce traffic congestion. So why are they being built in the name of 'development'? Let's revisit in 5-10 years to find out. #UrbanPlanning #SustainableDevelopment

#CompleteStreets prioritize safety, comfort, & access for all-public transport, cyclists, pedestrians & cars. Though missing in the 2025 Master Plan, it's encouraging to see it in the draft #GuwahatiMasterPlan2045. Let’s hope they are implemented with trees, not just on paper!

The draft #GuwahatiMasterPlan2045 sets out a vision with key principles & 9 directions. We urge authorities to engage with all stakeholders (including citizens) to achieve this in letter & spirit—let's not let it stay on paper like many proposals in the 2025 plan did.

Many think Metro train systems are the ultimate fix for urban traffic congestion (though they’re not). Sadly, car dependency is so ingrained that people expect others to use the Metro while they keep driving their own cars. This is the reality in many Indian cities with a Metro.

My favorite 60km cycling loop near Guwahati. It winds through breathtaking hills, tea gardens, forests, & farmlands—pure bliss! But with all the ‘development’ projects being declared, how long will it stay this way? How do we balance progress with preserving our natural beauty?
