NIWA are finding some a bounty of possibly #deepsea new species from Bounty Trough. But remember it is places like NIWA and the TePapa museum collections where these specimens are stored allowing scientists to access & study them #taxonomytuesday youtube.com/watch?v=kHPbej…

We need more independent marine research. The #DeepSeaMining industry purports the deep sea as a very barren place, low in biodiversity. However, now we know there is greater biodiversity than expected, says Alex David Rogers at #OceanDecade24.

🌊 A few days in and our #ArcticDeep expedition has already revealed some exciting finds! The first push core samples from the ROV dive to 3000m on the Knipovich Ridge have returned a beautiful array of deep sea invertebrates like crinoids, sea stars, and sponges.

🇦🇷 We’re thrilled to have Dr Pamela Rivadeneira on board #ArcticDeep. Pamela’s #research has focused on the #diversity and reproduction of deep-sea starfish, and her career has seen her describe a new genus and new #species. We’re excited to learn from her expertise!

🌬️ Over the last few days, we've encountered some fascinating #Arctic vent #fauna! These chemosynthetic #ecosystems create truly unique habitats that attract specialized species of shrimps 🦐, worms 🪱, and even sandworm-looking isopods! 🦀.
