I’m incredibly aware of the issues we have in literally every industry in creating opportunities for more groups. It’s not exclusive to pro sports or television. But sportscasting is a meritocracy. The people in the highest of roles get there and stay there because of the

I’m not saying nepotism is a good thing or something we should be “ok” with, but not everything is black and white when it comes to this.

I am also able to say I was able to get a lot of reps because minor pro sports grew in my home market at the start of my career and i was able to call hockey, football and hoops on radio and TV because of it. Reps I may not have got had I moved somewhere else. Who knows.

And it would have been cost prohibitive for me to have moved to a city with one. That’s why I went to college in Boston instead of Ann Arbor. Because of proximity to the pro sports I wanted to work in.
