Field crop pathologists across the U.S. are collaborating with Damon L. Smith through various projects to help develop the BEST models with high quality non biased data. One project is #NPMTI agpmt.org with funding from Dept. of Agriculture

In SE IA checking on #corn fungicide trial. July 9 (R1) = few plants with a single tar spot on one leaf in lower canopy. Today (+4weeks R4) = 1-few tar spots on ear leaf of all plants in control Fieldprophet risk <10% thru July. Too hot for tar? Did we need spray? Damon L. Smith

Any minute now (and hopefully - IF you’re a corn pathologist) we should start seeing this. Arbitrary dead plants in the field. Split the crown and look for dark brown rotted tissue.

ISU extension is at #2024FPS talking about NPMTI. Esteban Gonzalez and daniel kimtai will be there this morning. I’ll be there this afternoon. Stop by! We also have cool disease triangle swag!!!

I agree. Fungicides have worn off plus the weather is getting more conducive for tar spot! Checking standability in fields will be crucial for a successful harvest.

Snap to my girls! He was on brim of my hat 😳! LOTS of #corn disease at ISU Armstrong Farm in SW IA: tar, southern, common, gray, northern, Goss’s and bacterial blight! Total disease severity on ear leaf of control ~20-25%. Yield data should be interesting ⁦Corn Diseases

This is a phenomenal collaboration with datascience@uw and Crop Protection Network (CPN) that give corn farmers and consultants usable, interactive tools to make hard decisions a bit easier. Check it out!
