On May 1, 1864, the prison population at Andersonville reached 10,166, exceeding its maximum intended capacity of 10,000 prisoners. Although prison officials requested no more prisoners be sent, Andersonville would be plagued by overcrowding throughout the summer. #ande #nps

Join us for our May Second Saturday Event, Civil War Jeopardy. Our interns are itching for a rematch. Test your knowledge against the Andersonville interns in a friendly game of Civil War jeopardy. We will be hosting two trivia matches at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Due to inclement weather and safety concerns, Andersonville National Historic Site and the National Prisoner of War Museum will have a delayed opening on Friday, May 10, 2024. Park grounds will open at 11:00 am, and the Museum will open at 11:30 am.
