"Detoxification” of the brain during sleep is a 100 years old theory, but notoriously difficult to demonstrate in humans. A new study in Nature Neuroscience find REDUCED brain clearance during sleep & aneshesia in mice. Time to reconsider the role of sleep? nature.com/articles/s4159…

Feature in Science Magazine on Nature Neuroscience "reduced waste clearance during sleep" paper. Important debate of the dogma of sleep -brain wash. A lot of methodological assumptions call for sober conclusions at this time. The jury is still out. science.org/content/articl…

Really interesting from Didac Vidal Pineiro Follow-up time much more important for reliability than number of timepoints; extend from 2 to 4 yrs yields MUCH larger improvements than adding 6 (!) more TPs. Comes with a shiny app to explore reliability, sample size and powerđź‘Ź LCBC - UiO

I was pretty busy yesterday answering lovely emails, so am belatedly saying a few things now: What a huge honor, especially to receive this thing with the amazing Doris Tsao and Winrich. What I did was child’s pay compared to the sophisticated work they carried out subsequently.

Congratulations to Nancy Kanwisher, Winrich Freiwald and Doris Ying Tsao on their receipt of the 2024 #Kavli Prize in Neuroscience! The work for which they were honored has roots in research they conducted @ Martinos in the 1990s & early 2000s. More here: bit.ly/45pHdob

We find early cogn abilties fully explain low edu - dementia risk assoc. Low cogn double the risk, even accounting for edu. Replicated within families. Registry data, 77% population coverage. LCBC - UiO Vegard Skirbekk Ole Rogeberg Kristine B Walhovd BerntBratsberg medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
