When hospitals (note plural) have no water, when the healthcare system is haemorrhaging staff, when corruption reigns and victimising whistleblowers is the order of the day…. I must wonder- Where is the patient in this all? Abandoned, alone, ignored.

Why do running routes always look easier in profile than they feel on the legs?

It boggles my mind how the organisers of a 21km road race that is pre-entry only can mess up the water tables such that on a hot, sunny, Joburg summer day there was no water available at at least four of the water tables. #Dischem21km Inexcusable. Still smiling at the end, though

Anyone who thinks that Joburg is not hilly, has not run the roads of said city. Yoh, it is not getting any easier…. Onward and upward, tally-ho.

First 21 in a while. Pacing still good, despite fitness being found wanting.

Because after a run in Cape Town, hydration is essential. Pity the view is also hydrating though.

What a finish at #ComradesRace. Nail-biting stuff, must be closest finish after 1967. This is what ultra marathons are made of and why Comrades remains one of the world’s greatest races. We also remember those who fell in The Great War for which this run was started.

Amsterdam really is a pretty city.

When you and the weather app have words. I can confirm that it definitely did not feel like 4 degrees this morning. The frost at the end of the run confirmed this.

Dark when we start, thermal layering in the air and ice in the valleys, stairs on the up and the down. Beautiful city, beautiful people, beautiful run. Just far on unfit legs.

When it snows at home….. It is wisest to be in the bush.

Early winter wonderland in the bush…. Playful cheetah and a snoring lion…. This is where heart and soul are recharged….

Apparently running 500m vertical on 15km trail in gale force winds and freezing temps is the way to enjoy a Sunday morning.
