Top activity in our course Aquatic Ecology & Water Quality is camping with students from Sunday till Saturday. On Friday, we start building the field labs and catering tent and build a raft above the deepest point of the lake.

Every morning, 10 groups of 4/5 students get instructions about their assignment of the day. Making vertical profiles in the lake; sampling zooplankton and sediment in the lake; sampling macrofauna, plants, fish in pond and lake, and performing drift sampling on the river.

Learning some basic canoe skills in our course Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality for convenient paddling and sampling on the lake and the river. Not all canoes passed the fish trap and weir upright though 🫣

A raft is placed above the deepest point of the lake from which students make vertical profiles of several water quality variables: light intensity, temperature, O2, conductivity, turbidity, chlorophyll-a concentration, phosphate concentration, and suspended solids concentration.
