The first time I see a Mammoth net in action. It is massive! BIO-Carbon Eloรฏse Savineau National Oceanography Centre British Antarctic Survey ๐ง
Our 4 gliders are away! We sent off 4 autonomous vehicles that will stay in the Icelandic basin collecting data until we retrieve them this fall. BIO-Carbon

Hard to believe that a faecal pellet of 2.5 mm and am aggregate of 2 mm from our marine snow catchers this morning were what made me happy at 4 am this morning but here we are โ๏ธBIO-Carbon Imperial College London

The crew, techs and scientists on BIO-Carbon #DY180 have all done a fantastic job - and we now have an enormous dataset on the biological contribution to ocean carbon storage to analyse!
Filipa Carvalho and Nathan @nocnews are in charge of the underwater vision profiler (UVP) to image particles >0.1 mm in the water column. The UVPs were mounted in the CTD, and also had yellow helpers (#gliders, not minions ๐) to collect the fantastic images.
Ben Gustafson from Heriot-Watt University runs the #FlowCam to determine the community composition in the water collected from the CTDs and dilution experiments. He feels he has a TV, as all of us keep asking him what's in the water today?
And of course, we have #microscopes. The #zooplankton team use them to separate specific species to then measure their respiration rates or egg profuction. Ben Gustafson and myself sneak in when free to pick up pteropods or take pictures of the beautiful creatures.
Happy to celebrate our last few years together at the MBA - to share an office with such an academic gem and a kind soul Laura Branscombe was a dream! Proud to see all your achievements thus far and I know there will be many more to come!!
Excited to attend my first Georgina Mace Centre for the Living Planet ecological debate at Imperial College London ๐คฉ
Today I officially become a faculty member Imperial Life Sciences Georgina Mace Centre for the Living Planet!! Very excited for the next chapter in my career and grateful for the research time I've had. Thanks for all the poo ๐ฉ
