#NowWatching About seven years ago, I watched Akira four times in a week. I had seen it twice before, but not in about 15 years. I watched it two more times that year, bought the score on vinyl, and read the manga. It just clicked; I was obsessed. First rewatch since.

This scene made me fall in love with this movie. Goofy-ass '80s Hong Kong comedy is my shit. Movie: Why Why Tell Me Why Source: Panorama HK Classics Blu-ray

New on the Site. Are most of the pictures of this Ken Takakura movie effortlessly cool? Of course they are, why is that even a question. Wolves, Pigs & Men out now from Eureka Entertainment. Read Ben “垃圾王” Jones's #review here: thegeekshow.co.uk/wolves-pigs-me…

Police Story 3: Supercop (1993 Stanley Tong) Was slightly disappointed in this on this revisit, as aside from the banger finale, the action is fairly generic, with little of the inventive choreography seen in Jackie's 80s/early 90s output. Still very enjoyable though #YearofYeoh

Something different from FrightFest now. Via Third Window Films, Cult Classic Mermaid Legend had a retrospective 40th Anniversary UK premiere at this year's horror spectacular. Read Ben “熊” Jones's #review here: thegeekshow.co.uk/mermaid-legend…

LOVE ON DELIVERY Dir: Lee Lik-chi 1994 #NowWatching This Stephen Cho joint is absolutely top tier in my opinion! Chow, Uncle Tat and crew let the gags fly hot and heavy in this fucking awesome kung fu comedy! Good stuff, recommended!

#Watched So Close (2002) - 35mm print from UCLA Alamo Drafthouse NYC. Corey Yuen’s John Woo’s The Killer, only much sillier and much sexier (and sliiightly more explicitly homoerotic?). Pure action movie recursion, a feedback loop between HK and H-wood. RIP king.

#Watched Golgo 13: Assignment Kowloon (1977) - after So Close, went back to a movie that likely helped inspire Woo - 1977’s Japan/HK Golgo 13 co-production, this time with a rusty permed Sonny Chiba (replacing Ken Takakura) as the white-garbed assassin. /1
