“scientists must challenge the assumption that translation, rather than fundamental understanding, is the choke point of progress in the application of science to societal problems”

The Berkeley City Club invited me to speak about #CRISPR genome editing cures. Giving a public lecture in a Julia Morgan-designed building is a bit nerve-wracking (cue "I'm not worthy") - but I'll do my best. It's Wed Jan 10 at 7p. Link to tickets in 2nd tweet.

On Dec. 25, 1984, Cal🌟 Prof. Elizabeth Blackburn & grad student Carol Greider first discovered evidence of the enzyme telomerase, used in cancer research. In 2009, they became the first women to share a Nobel Prize in the sciences for this discovery (with Harvard's Jack Szostak).

Going steady for maturity: a subset of CD63-rich #endosomes partner with #microtubule-associated #septins, which promote maturation to multivesicular bodies/late endosomes by inhibiting their motility.
