Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807 and used the Royal Navy to enforce the ban. By 1867 Portsmouth-based ships had freed 150,000 Africans. Plans for a new memorial have been welcomed by visitors to the city including Paul Westlake: “An excellent idea. It should happen”

Today should have been Simon's 56th birthday. Forever remembered as the cheeky, happy-go-lucky 18-yr old tragically lost on 12.12.86. A difficult day for his parents who continue to fight for justice with courage & dignity 🙏 Happy heavenly birthday Simon 🎂 you are so missed ❤

#Cancer waiting times for 2023 in England were the worst on record. Just 64.1% of patients started treatment within 62 days of cancer being suspected, with 100,000 waiting longer than they should for life-saving care. The waits have worsened every year for the past 11.
