The below graph shows the basic pay you were receiving at the beginning of the dispute (vertical) along with the basic pay if the offer is accepted (horizontal) with the difference in dark green at the top. *the DDRB recommendations for 23/24 and 24/25 have already been agreed.

The pay offer is back dated, so the 4.05% applies to the beginning of April 23. The below graphic depicts what you can expect to be back paid if the offer is accepted, and if the offer isnโ€™t accepted, based on your grade.

Now letโ€™s talk about exception reporting - We identified that doctors, especially when they progress through grades, are hesitant to put in exception reports because of how they think theyโ€™ll be perceived by their supervisors.

Our proposal removes the responsibility of exception reports from supervisors and gives this to medical HR. We have built in a clause that if a doctor stays behind less than 2 hours, the only determination that needs to be made to pay or give TOIL is whether the doctor was there.

Other changes that have been agreed, as part of the deal, include changes to rotational training and increasing training numbers to address the training bottlenecks and planned increase in medical school places.

Historically the DDRB has offered us a 1.6% uplift yearly for the past 15 years. Your strike action has changed that trajectory, we have now received ~8% two years in a row. You did that.

The DDRB announces their recommendation between April and July yearly. Their recommendations have shown they have taken our issues with pay seriously and want to ensure medicine is an attractive career from a pay perspective.

The 4.05% offered by the government is separate to the DDRB recommendation, and the question is when we think our strike action will have a bigger impact: 1. Now when the DDRB has made its recommendation and weโ€™ve been given an uplift on a year thatโ€™s closed?

2. Spring 25 when the DDRB are deciding what their recommendation will be and there is room for the government to make an offer for the 24/25 financial year?

We think this offer presents an opportunity for us to bank an uplift for 23/24, bake it into the 24/25 uplift and build financial reserves for upcoming industrial action in early 2025.

The train drivers havenโ€™t been successful against pay erosion by having a โ€˜once in a generationโ€™ strike. They come out on strike every time there is a below inflation pay offer, and they win, again and again and again.

We believe it is, and are recommending that you vote accept, with the expectation that we will be pursuing further strike action should the 2025 DDRB recommendation not make sufficient progress towards full pay restoration.
