PSA: the new Bolt scam ‼️ Drivers don’t start the ride when they pick you up. They just move and if your mind or your eyes isn’t on the app, they just keep going and don’t start the trip until you get somewhat close to your destination, accruing a bunch of wait time.

The rate for wait time is higher than the rate for travel time/distance. What that means is that your total fare will shoot up because of the fugazi wait time the driver deceitfully added to your trip. This has happened to me close to 5 times in just the past week or two.

When you notice that they haven’t started the trip, they insist that they have and that it’s your network that’s the problem. They ask you to reset your data. Then the trip will magically start within the next few seconds. Meanwhile they just started the trip bc you caught them.

They’re taking advantage of the fact that when you’re on your way to somewhere or probably in a hurry, your mind wanders and may no longer be on the app. You likely won’t notice that the trip hasn’t started. And when you arrive you have no choice but to pay whatever the app says.

This is an example. There was an extra fee of 6 cedis added to my fare because of wait time, meanwhile the driver didn’t have to wait for me. And this was because I caught it early. The driver denied it, of course. I reported it and was compensated.

Sometimes it’s significant, sometimes it’s just a few cedis. But it’s our hard earned money, and they are thieves. Now what I do is when I’ve noticed you haven’t started the trip and you’ve moved a few meters, I just say “boss, start the trip”. No long talk. Because if I vex…

I can guarantee you that if you pay attention to this over the next one week or so, or check your ride history you will find several cases. Bolt needs to do something about their drivers. Is that how to make money?
