Pre @unicef BFHI in Croatia, healthy term babies were routinely separated from their mothers. EBF rates were 2% and Dr Irena Zakarija-Grkovic tells us her predominant memory of working there, was the sound of newborns crying. Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) #EABM2023

Formula is expensive, and that consumer cost funds a $3BILLION marketing budget per year. They spend further more on lobbyists, sponsoring medical events and creating "helpful" breastfeeding resources for parents. "It's a societal responsibility to raise healthy children". Thank you Sarah-Jane Mee and Vicky Thomas for raising the important issue of the first 1000 days and formula poverty in the UK.

It is always great to work with colleagues throughout Scotland, and beyond.Especially Marianne White and lisayoung in highlighting the need for MDT lactation care in #breastcancer & #breastsepsis. NHS Tayside are lucky to have you and the surgical team driving this forward!

Feeding babies is only one part of the parental mix, but for those not able to feed their babies as they hoped or would have chosen, it's a big part. Infant feeding should be on everyone's agendas. This film will help explain why. 👇

Never before have I witnessed such a powerful and compelling performance, on stage or screen. #IsabelaCoracy as Nina Simone. Acting was sublime, she fully embodied the role and was truly born for this part. Ballet Black was dance and storytelling at its best tonight. 👏🏽👑

Thank you to Dr Ndzi Ernestine Ndzi for sharing her personal experience of breastfeeding in the UK. She grew up never hearing of a new mother crying because of breastfeeding. Why? It was supported by her culture and wider society. #bfscot2023

Yes, 2 years minimum breastfeeding / human milk feeding is recommended as optimum for human health. Immune and bioactive factors are especially important throughout the early years.
