Our keynote address is by Prof Tracy-Lynn Field, Claude Leon Foundation Chair in Earth Justice and Stewardship, who partnered with us in preparing our participants for a hypothetical case on water rights Read the hypothetical case here: wits.ac.za/cals/moot/
.Tracy-Lynn Field argues public interest litigation is a formal way of expressing anger. And we should be angry about water. SA is water scarce and water stressed. Water shedding will be worse than loadshedding: there is no alternative like solar power for water
Next up, we have two teams from University of Johannesburg: Fanele Nokweluswa and Livhuwani Khwidzhili, and Karabo Moaludi and Unathi Xokiso. Both teams are supported by #PILMOOT 2021 winners, Winnie George and Samantha Smit
And our top two teams through to tomorrow's #PILMOOT grand finale are... Karabo Moaludi and Unathi Xokiso from University of Johannesburg and Thabisile Mahatlane and Thabang Phoshodi from Rhodes University! A HUGE well done to our finalists!
And the winners of this year's Public Interest Law Moot Court Competition hosted by CALS and the Student Litigation Society in partnership with the Water Research Commission are... Thabisile Mahatlane and Thabang Phoshodi from Rhodes University!
And finally, from the science students, our best expert report goes to... Nosibabalo Mase from University of Fort Hare!
