And we must fight that inserted piece of self-destruction that lives and flourishes like a poison inside of us, unexamined until it makes us turn upon ourselves in each other.

But we can put our finger down upon that loathing buried deep within each one of us and see who it encourages us to despise, and we can lessen its potency by the knowledge of our real connectedness, arcing across our differences.

Over and over again in the 60s I was asked to justify my existence and my work, because I was a woman, because I was a Lesbian, because I was not a separatist, because some piece of me was not acceptable. Not because of my work but because of my identity”

Yoruba land had curly or coily hair. The ends of their hair would not stand straight and would just curl up. Hence the name kolese. It is a well-known braided hairstyle that is found throughout much of Yorubaland.

Really enjoying Emma Dabiri's 2021 book. It's such a tragedy that within the flood of 'anti-racist', 'allyship', and 'privilege' books, earnest reflections on racism and how to fight it get lumped together with useless crap.

Really appalled British Airways not allowing my 86 year old father to self-declare COVID, requiring him to get a doctor's note in order to 'hold' the ticket to return. They are absolutely fine with Covid-positive people getting on board. And then we wonder why there's a 'spike'.

I think Charli XCX is unlistenable. No heart. There’s a whole subgenre of pop that’s just popular for the sake of proving we still have a monoculture at all but the melodies and lyrics are never memorable

Good morning all, I'll be finalising my book on the gentrification of Hackney this December! But...I'm still keen to hear from anyone who wants to share their views about gentrification in the borough over the decades. You can fill out the survey here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

Hillsborough. Stephen Lawrence. Windrush. The Post Office. And now Grenfell. The systematic programme of institutional injustice, dishonesty and incompetence meted out to a specific section of society continues.
