Delegating is hard because you have to intentionally not do stuff that you want to do because you delegated it. That only leaves the stuff you didn't want to do that you couldn't delegate.

An old program tape with two clearly visible patches, on sections 250 and 260. The punch card's error, as manifested by the punches, was patched in just the same way a bike tire is patched. This is why we call it patching when we fix existing software.

It’s fascinating to see how quickly something goes from “impossible” to “normal” once something has been done *once*. What’s driving progress isn’t just the fact that we stand on the shoulders of giants, but also that we benchmark ourselves against them.

"Now with ChatGPT there’s really no excuse to bother a senior engineer" Junior devs, please don't listen to this. ChatGPT will feed you confident-sounding nonsense, which is esp dangerous when you're too new to know the difference! If you're stuck, please ask a human instead 💜

Hot-take: I don't think "vendor consolidation" is a priority for serious infosec ppl. "none of this works" is more common than "all this works but i hate having multiple vendors" Aside from Microsoft, i can't think of many reasonable "just buy it from the consolidator" options

if I wanted someone with no life experience who claimed to be a senior developer to confidently give me bad information I could just go on Reddit

Ask 5,000 guys to flip 7 coins each. Find a guy who flips 7 tails. Ask him about the key to his success, whether it was his habits, work ethic, religious devotion. He will have plenty to say. Maybe he will write a book or start a podcast.
