Excited to share this work with Mario Vallejo-Marin on buzz-pollination biomechanics. We show that flower biting behaviour is an effective strategy to transfer vibrations of the thorax to the flower via the head! 🐝💐 Find out more here: cell.com/current-biolog…
Why do bees bite flowers when buzz pollinating? Here, with Dr Charlie Woodrow and the HFSP -funded team we show that biting helps bees to increase the amount of shaking applied to flowers, potentially releasing more pollen. Free access until 5 Oct! kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2…
If you're interested in becoming an Associate Editor for Agricultural and Forest Entomology and want to know more, come chat with me or Chris Ranger throughout #ICE2024! We'll also be at the 'pitch a paper' session at the Royal Entomological Society stand during Thursday's poster session to talk about AFE.
Our paper on how biting helps during buzz pollination is free to read. Thanks to Uppsala University for providing open access fees. Buzz-pollinating bees deliver thoracic vibrations to flowers through periodic biting: Current Biology cell.com/current-biolog…
