Highlights for me: (1) corroboration of our Diabetologia 2018 report as down in T2D: ARG2, HHATL, G6PC2; (2) up in T2D the disallowed gene, LDHA; (3) correlation of GPD2 protein and GSIS, supporting the importance of glycerol phosphate shuttle and ox phos.

Very pleased to be involved in this elegant study led by David Hodson and colleagues. Whereas LDHA and LDHB are both “disallowed” in rodent beta cells, in humans LDHB is detectably expressed in a subset of beta cells, probably working in reverse: lac to pyr.
