On August 14th, members of the Housing Assistance team met leaders from the Town of Orleans at 107 Main Street. Orleans selected Housing Assistance to build 14 affordable rental units on the property, a mix of 9 one -bedroom, 4 two-bedroom, and 1 three-bedroom unit.

Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll visited Orleans Wednesday to celebrate the recent passage of the Affordable Homes Act. The event was held at the former Governor Prence Inn on Route 6A, where Housing Assistance and its partners will rejuvenate the 5.5-acre parcel.

“It was gratifying for me to see clients who followed their dreams, their passions,” said Jan Nelson, who retired as head of Housing Assistance’s Family Self-Sufficiency program, which helps low-income families build assets. “It meant a lot to me that I was able to help.”

Michael Sweeney (right) came to Housing Assistance in 1980 as a volunteer. He retired 36 years later as the chief operating officer. He also did the little things like shoveling snow, fixing fellow coworkers’ cars & conducting general office maintenance. Thanks, Michael!
