The turnout in yesterday's Beverly preliminary election was 16.45%. That might not sound like much, but it's more than double the 7.1% turnout of the 2021 prelim.

The largest turnout came in Ward 1, where 1,069 people voted. Ward 1 is Ryal Side, where residents have been most affected by the closing of the Hall-Whitaker Bridge. It's also the only ward won by challenger Jamie Zarella.

Turnout in today's Beverly election was 17.8% as of 2 p.m., according to the City Clerk's office. That already tops the 16.4% turnout for last month's preliminary.
