Listening to students from Canberra about how even “good” schools don't have all the resources they need - in some cases not even enough chairs for every student in a class. We need to aim higher when it comes to public education & avoid growing divides based on wealth.

Canterbury, Barton, Australia – it has been an honour. Last night I gave my valedictory speech, joined by colleagues and friends from around the country. I have been so privileged to serve in the NSW and Australian Parliaments, and as minister in both places.

United in action! We went to Canberra to meet with the Anthony Albanese Government about full funding for every child at a public school. Hats off to State Education Ministers like Prue Car MP 'I will not sign any agreement that shortchanges NSW public schools' #auspol #NSWpol

Which is exactly what Teachers Federation warned in the lead up to the COAG meeting in 2012 that demanded all governments make funding to TAFE contestable and precarious. I wonder if Julia Gillard or any of the other participants will ever apologise for the scandal.

Michael, a casual teacher across 5 public schools, sees the impact of underfunding firsthand. Last week he joined us in Canberra, lobbying the Federal Govt to raise their share of school funding, to give teachers & students the resources they need. #auspol #nswpol Anthony Albanese

Absolutely disgraceful. Non-school based positions support teachers in so many ways. They are so important as classroom teachers continue to introduce new syllabus documents to kids with higher needs than ever, while under-resourced under-staffed! Cutting us off at the knees.

As someone who: - benefited enormously from working with NSBTs early in my career - experienced first hand the loss of support when positions cut under LSLD - previously worked as a NSBT - engages with NSBTs & their work to improve practice I can make no sense of these cuts.

“Teachers can only do the best they can if they are supported by the system.” —> Non-school based teachers are critical to teachers and schools. Cutting over 200 of these positions will hurt teachers and student outcomes. smh.com.au/national/nsw/t…

Great. Taxpayer billions help fund Olympic aquatic centres and hi-tech gyms for private schools…while state schools can’t afford a bus for sport. What a stinking betrayal. smh.com.au/politics/nsw/p…

No public school in the state has the full funding required to meet student need… it’s time for the Prime Minister to step up. #ForEveryChild

I ask again: if we can afford to over fund virtually every private school in Australia according to their SRS, why can’t we afford to fund every public school to at the very least their SRS? There can only be one answer. Class.
