Bad news for people who peddle obvious falsehoods, such as "The NHS is being privatised by stealth", "Liz Truss crashed the economy", "Britain's wealth is built on colonial plunder", "Housing supply has no impact on prices" or "Capitalism is frying the planet", right? RIGHT??

Most "two tier policing" issues raised aren't really about race. The police clapping with NHS workers on that packed bridge during Covid, whilst other police hunted people going for long solo walks in the country, wasn't about racism. It was about political correctness.

If you want to know the difference between Milton Friedman and Joseph Stiglitz, I present to you 4 countries with a GDP per capita of about $15,000 in 1998 (Poland being a bit poorer back then). The first one, Estonia, reformed its way out of socialism through shock therapy.

He's right. We're better off supporting R&D in green tech that can cut *global* emissions than the current strategy of ever-costlier domestic emissions reduction via "demand destruction". Industrial energy costs have >doubled since 2004: this will only get worse on current plans.

We are indeed going to have to build a lot of stuff for #NetZero ambitions to be realised, inc. low carbon electricity generation, transmission, storage, vehicle charging facilities, etc. But impact on the landscape could have been reduced with more nuclear/less wind in the mix.

Ultra-fast EV chargers are being deployed at lightning speed in Europe: Fast chargers for Europeโ€™s EVs septuple (!) in 3 years. European policy supports fast-charging corridors and fast chargers now make up 15% of the public charging network up from 5% in 2022. EV drivers now

These people are just the same as the Just Stop Oil lot, and just as bad and should be locked up. Anyone arguing otherwise is basically saying โ€œI support criminality, but only for things that I believe in.โ€, so therefore not thinking objectively.

Wht stop there - why not nationalise Oasis whilst you're at it, or indeed musicians generally? PS Zara - this is an ironic question, not a recommendation.

Latest in 'EV sales in the UK are stalling' news: EV sales in August jumped to 22.6% market share Sales in 2024 so far remain over 10% higher than they were at this point in 2023 But yeah, sure, no one wants them

It's impossible for any analyst, however well informed, to know if the AR6 renewable auction will cut consumer bills. That depends on wholesale prices over next 15+ years, which are unknowable in advance - though the ยฃ1.5 bn pa gov.t budget suggests cost increases are expected.

Range anxiety is frequently cited as one of the biggest turnoffs of electric vehicles. Even as recent as 2021, the average range of an EV was just 217 miles (349 km), falling significantly short from the average gas carโ€™s range of 413 miles (665 km). Thankfully, as this

Let's be honest: climate change is real but we are not seeing the harvest collapse promised by XR. "Compared with a decade ago, the world will harvest in 2024/25 about 10% more wheat, about 15% more corn, nearly 30% more soybeans, and about 10% more rice." bloomberg.com/opinion/articlโ€ฆ

To be fair, other than bailing out banks, keeping interest rates too low for too long, massively raising public spending relative to GDP, nearly electing Communists, closing down the entire economy for months, creating >10% inflation & a huge energy package, errors hv bn modest.

This is worrying for the whole of Europe, not just EU members. High (=internationally uncompetitive) energy prices might not be the only problem but they're certainly a major one, especially for what's left of energy intensive industrial manufacturing in Europe.

I would have headlined it โ€œThere is now very little doubt that Covid leaked from a labโ€. Thereโ€™s always a smidgen of doubt about everything. My spiked article on why scientists wonโ€™t debate an accident a thousand times worse than Bhopal. spiked-online.com/2024/09/10/theโ€ฆ
