Another stellar #PittACESFellowship thesis defense today! 💫 Congratulations, Kathryn Leyens, on the development of such an important + impactful RCA curriculum for our internal medicine residents - and likely beyond in the future!

Although difficult to empirically measure, and hard to see in this 📸, The Spagnoletti Effect is real and pervasive. Thank you, Carla Spagnoletti MD, MS, for all that you’ve been to #PittACESFellowship and thank you to everyone who helped honor Carla today! #IWantToBeCarla

Check out this 🔥 perspective piece on what #GrowthMindset is, what it is not, + how we can instill it at the individual, relational, + systems levels in #MedEd! Congrats to this fab group of authors, including two former #PittACESFellowship fellows, Katie Gavinski, MD, MPH, MS Ed + Milad Memari, MD, MS, MSEd.!

Pausing to reflect on long-term growth: I remember struggling to see + develop plans for 2-3 patients before rounds as a med student. Today I saw patients in clinic, rounded on my inpatient service, + staffed w/ my team. MS3 me would be in awe. #JoyInMedicine #ProudToBeGIM

An off brand but important post: I just spent >3 hours on the phone (predominantly on hold) with Nelnet trying to get to the bottom of a question regarding my federal #StudentLoans. The folks I talked with were incredibly helpful, but this wait time is wholly unacceptable.

A CDC report this week on burnout in healthcare concluded with this: Solutions should emphasize “improving the work environment to support mental health, rather than asking workers to be more resilient…” Resilience isn’t the issue. The environment is.

What is the MOST important skill for a provider? Caring. Like truly caring about the human being that you call patient. When you care then you will study, ask for help when you don't know something, and do everything possible to provide the best care for your patient. All of

Had a fab time on Friday co-facilitating Carly Sokach, MD’s workshop on how to intentionally practice + teach #SoftSkills with the Temple IM Residency PGY2 residents during their #ResidentsAsTeachersAndLeaders curriculum! Love me a little statewide #MedEd collab! #PhysicianWellBeing

As someone who has been lucky enough to work with Dr. Spataro as a first inpatient block intern and now as a mentee, I know just how incredibly well-deserved this is! Huge congratulations!

“Our emotional state determines what we remember + how we learn. Emotions also affect our decision-making because we perceive the world differently depending on the mood that we are in.” #EI is an untapped skill in #MedEd - excited to see more work in this space!

Update: said shiny end result is within reach with my thesis defense slated for tomorrow AM. I’m by zero means a #QualitativeResearch expert, but I’m proud of the amount of work I put in to bring this project to the metaphorical finish line - onwards! #MedEd #GrowthMindset

Thank you, SGIM, for recognizing our workshop on #EmotionalIntelligence in medicine! Carly Sokach, MD + I developed this workshop when we were residents in the Pitt General Internal Medicine #MedEd Certificate Program, so this award is just as much hers as it is mine! #EI #PhysicianWellBeing
