A year ago today, I had a career highlight in presenting my research into the Conservatives party's manifestos during the leadership of Margaret Thatcher at the House of Lords. This research shall be published in an edited book by Lord Norton of Louth and Matt Beech (Centre for British Politics).
🚨 Hard to believe it was a year ago today that I presented on #ThatcherAfterNo10 at Lord Norton of Louth & Centre for British Politics's conference on Margaret Thatcher. 📖 Since then, my book chapter's been accepted. 🗞️ And there's other news coming soon. #MargaretThatcher #Thatcher #ExPremiers
A year since this wonderful experience ✨️ I still can't believe it (🤣) and I owe my biggest thanks to Lord Norton of Louth and Centre for British Politics for having organised it and the opportunity!
“‘Lessons learned’ is an entirely vacuous phrase if lessons aren’t being learned because inquiry recommendations are ignored or delayed.” – Lord Norton of Louth, chair of the House of Lords Statutory Inquiries Committee, which has reported today committees.parliament.uk/committee/702/…
I am pleased to see that the recent recommendations of the House of Lords led by the Lord Norton of Louth Lord Norton of Louth have concurred with my precious criticism in The Critic of the length of inquiries and the problems with the Salmon Principles. thecritic.co.uk/our-inquiry-pr…
The Library doesn't just focus on what goes on in the Chamber. We publish quick read explainers on topics like housing, benefits, broadband and more, to help answer common constituency questions. They're available to everyone on our website. Read now: commonslibrary.parliament.uk/constituency-c…
Lord Norton of Louth As a member of Detainee Inquiry a dozen years ago I endorse the Norton report’s analysis and proposals, especially on how to prevent governments ignoring inquiry recommendations by ensuring follow-up.
This report is discussed in the 2nd outing of an excellent new podcast series by Joshua Rozenberg … if you have missed *Law in Action* I can heartily recommend subscribing to his outlet for law reporting 👏🙂
Really pleased to see this report, and it's particularly timely given the recent Grenfell Inquiry report. I'm glad to see that it draws on the evidence and arguments Emma_Norris and I made as part of our Institute for Government research. Change isn't a given, inquiries need help.
The broad issues, and some sound fixes, are covered in this brilliant new report from Lord Norton of Louth and his House of Lords committee on statutory inquiries: committees.parliament.uk/committee/702/…
