timms.le.ac.uk/mbrrace-uk-per…. The best way to tackle stillbirths (SBs) in the UK is manage preterm risks better. “Despite only 8% of babies being born before 37/40, they make up 3/4 of SBs, (late fetal losses (75%), & NND (74%))….38% of SBs and 45% of NNDs in 2021 were <28/40.”

Does anyone have good examples of competing risks in their practice? I feel we often increase risk overall by avoiding more minor issues in an increasing risk averse culture. Common with limited resources. Increasingly hard to challenge. Delaying surgery for example.

jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman… Better cognitive score with enhanced visual stimulation, auditory stimulation, social interactions, and support for motor development, instructed by developmental therapists. Simple intervention in LMIC. Like it. Makes sense.

I can see this happening in preterm birth management. “For individuals and families undergoing these treatments, the physical and mental toll can be gruelling.” Important to maintain integrity and do the research before recommending interventions. doi.org/10.1016/S0140-…

Felicity Reynolds died earlier this month. A great influencer (pre social media) in obstetric anaesthesia, who retired just before I came to St Thomas. She changed our professional world and those we care for in labour for the better. I wanted to acknowledge this. RIP. Guy's and St Thomas'

Shocking statistics from the cdc in the USA. Often related to lack of universal health care screening and simple actions. Easy to fix.

pressat.co.uk/releases/the-t… Innovation is hard work and takes a long time. From Grahams genius through the hurdles of regulation and into market. Well done team.

journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/a… We found that for women who develop a short cervix (all comers), cerclage, pessary, & vaginal progesterone were equally efficacious at preventing PTB. I really think we need to be more discerning in who receives & benefits from these interventions.

Like this, and important this public health message gets out there. Seems to me there is a lot you can do to avoid dementia (from The Lancet commission on dementia). Statins and hearing aids particularly. Social interaction also very important as you get older.

Graham Tydeman talking about being an inventor and the importance of creativity: “The ability to transcend the ordinary.” Or just think outside the box! At the SASOG conference in South Africa. Wise words. Doctors should do it more. ⁦graham t
