It’s alive!!! The newest lab member, thanks to the open source Poseidon system from ⁦Lior Pachter⁩ ⁦sina⁩ ⁦Eduardo da Veiga Beltrame⁩ and co. Can’t wait to put it to good use!

By popular request, I've now open sourced the exact dimensions of the evolved Carpentopod's linkage system. So feel free to use it for your own projects! decarpentier.nl/carpentopod

No result can be exciting without strong controls. Quality controls matter at very step, from sample collection to data interpretation.

This is one of the coolest projects I've seen in a while. Giliam de Carpentier wrote code to find appropriate dimensions for the linkage mechanism- then built a coffee table with it.

When you study statistics, people just start talking at you like you're supposed to understand the difference between "probability" and "likelihood." If you're confused, you're not alone: these words have an *identical* meaning in English—but an important distinction in math.

A quantified world can be informative only insofar as measurement uncertainty is well understood and correctly interpreted. This is a challenge even for trained professionals: bmj.com/content/349/bm…

Not surprised to see the points in this UMAP trying to escape out of the plot they've been forced into. Source: nature.com/articles/s4159…

I really don't understand what is going on. How are journals and reviewers ok with this kind of junk? The many organizations that funded this work should be outraged. And sorry for the patients whose data is trashed in this way. Scientists really ought to have some self respect!

Today I learned that the ligation adapters, containing motor proteins, get bound to BOTH ends of the library molecule to be sequenced during Oxford Nanopore sequencing. h/t Jaz Sakr nanoporetech.com/document/chemi…

that’s crazy. for almost a decade MIT’s course picker was run off a server in a closet in my frat that we built for fun. then a guy in my freshman class made something 10x better and so everyone switched to that. he graduated in 2.5 years and has been at Jane Street ever since.

📢Out now! Gennady Gorin, Lior Pachter and colleagues from Caltech propose a method to cluster cells from multimodal single-cell data under a self-consistent, biophysical model. nature.com/articles/s4358…
