Is there agronomic reason to add peas into lupins?

Probe data showing a handy canola crop (20-30% flower) with a near to full profile pulling water liberally at depth but not much use in the top 70cm. First time i’ve seen this sort of thing in 17years of dry-land probe data. Does anyone have a hypothesis?
