Complete with original working milling machinery, Eskdale Mill is one of the few places in the UK where you can find double overshot waterwheels, a traditional oats drying rack and ingenious mechanisms made from local wood, metal and stone.

2/2 As an architect, Thomas Allom (1804-1872) worked with Sir Charles Barry on numerous projects, most notably the Houses of Parliament. However he is chiefly remembered for his numerous topographical works, which were used to illustrate books on travel.

So excited to have the Eskdale throws back from the weavers, the design is based on the turn table on the La’l Ratty and the colour on the distinctive eskdale granite. Three farms in the valley provided the wool #lakedistricttweed Lake District LakesFarming British Wool Farm

Maybe you recognise #StybarrowCrag in James Barrett's (1767-1819) painting. The narrow track is now the A592! He came from a family of artists and inherited the post of Master Painter at Chelsea Hospital, London, from his father. #ullswatervirtualartgallery #ullswaterway

What has changed? When the artist, Samuel Bough (1822-1878), painted '#Patterdale Cattle Auction' the Patterdale Inn was run by John Gelderd. It later became the Gelderd Family Hotel and today Patterdale Hotel. Apart from a change in the hotel's name, what else is different?

#Artistinthespotlight Henry Moore (1831-1895) had a meticulous attention to detail. He was known for his skilful handling of light and shadow. His paintings often had a dreamlike quality, with soft edges and a sense of tranquility and calm.#ullswatervirtualartgallery
