#OTD in 1918 the powerful war poet #WilfredOwen was killed leading his men by the banks of the Sambre-Oise canal at Ors. He was only 25yrs old. Just imagine what wonders of poetry the world was robbed of. #WeWillRememberThem It was my life's ambition to illustrate his words.

“I came out in order to help these boys – directly by leading them as well as an officer can; indirectly, by watching their sufferings that I may speak of them as well as a pleader can. I have done the first". Wilfred Owen Killed #OTD 1918 leading his men - Sambre-Oise canal.

What passing bells for these who die as cattle? Only the monstrous anger of the guns. Wilfred Owen died aged 25 on 4 November 1918. ‘All a poet can do today is warn.’

“Peace! London to-day is a pandemonium of noise and revelry, soldiers and flappers being most in evidence. Multitudes are making all the row they can, in spite of depressing fog and steady rain....” Beatrice Webb, 11 November 1918 #ArmisticeDay #beatricewebb

Dulce et Decorum Est - Illustrated by Martin Impey Foreword by Dr Jane Potter WOW! This poem really came alive through the illustrations when I taught it to Year 6 as part of their performance poetry. A powerful book that showed the true impact of WW1 as told by Wilfred Owen Association

The Clarence Gardens Hotel, Scarborough, now the Clifton Hotel, is where #WW1 poet Wilfred Owen was billeted in 1917. He occupied the turret room overlooking the North Bay and Scarborough Castle. It was here that he drafted and wrote several of his war poems.
