“What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops” (Mt 10:27). We are called to be bold, enthusiastic, and Spirit-filled evangelizers.

“Remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and the Lord, your God, brought you from there with his strong hand and outstretched arm” (Dt 5:15). Today is the Memorial of St. Peter Claver who brought comfort and hope to slaves in terrible distress.

“In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Lk 1:78). Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; he has come to his people and set us free.

“Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ” (Eph 4:32). We are called to forgive others as our merciful Lord forgives us.

Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38). Today we celebrate the Holy Name of Mary, Mother of God and our mother.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another” (Col 3:16). Today our Church remembers the Golden Mouth, St. John Chrysostom, who is the patron saint of preachers.

“Behold the wood of the cross, on which has hung our salvation: Come, let us adore!” (Traditional Antiphon). Today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

“For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead” (Jas 2:26). We are challenged to express our beliefs through our actions.

“God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life” (Jn 3:16). Saints Cornelius and Cyprian, martyrs, pray for us.

“Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law” (Rom 13:10). Today is the Memorial of St. Robert Bellarmine, patron saint of Louisville’s Bellarmine University, my alma mater.

“Whoever keeps Christ’s word, the love of God is truly perfected in him (cf. 1 Jn 2:5). We show our love when we keep God’s Word.

Archbishop Thompson is celebrating now at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indy a Mass of thanksgiving for the National Eucharistic Congress that took place in Indy in July. Coverage to come The Criterion.

Jesus said: “Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink” (cf. Jn 7:37). All who are thirsty are invited to come to the Living Waters, Christ the Lord.

“Jesus Christ is the glory of the martyrs: Come, let us adore him!” (Antiphon) Today we remember the Korean martyrs Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and companions.

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit”(Mt 28:19). Today is the Feast of St. Mathew the Apostle. May his intercession strengthen us as joy-filled missionary disciples.

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all” (Mk 9:35). Christians are called to lead by serving.
