AFD companies are on the scene of a fire at 20 block of New Leicester Hwy. Fire is coming from a roof vent. Evacuation is in progress.

AFD will hold a remembrance ceremony to honor the life of Captain Jeff Bowen who died in the line of duty in 2011. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 am and will be held at fire station 3. This event is open to the public.

AFD units responded to a moving water rescue in the area of Riverside Drive under the Bowen Bridge. A tuber was stuck against the bridge and has been safely rescued from the river uninjured. So proud of AFD’s highly trained firefighters who respond quickly!

AFD has received an activation order to support the North Carolina Emergency Management Agencies in their response to Hurricane Debby. AFD has deployed a team of 16 dedicated firefighters to Williamston, NC. The initial request is for 7 days.

AFD units are searching for a missing 66 yo black male. Subject is wearing a black jacket, gray pants, and a black beanie. He was last seen in the Chunns Cove Rd area. Please call 911 with any information.

On this day in 1964 Lt. George House died in the line of duty. Today, AFD remembers Lt. House and the sacrifices he made for this community. #FFLODD

On this day in 1891, three Asheville firefighters were killed in a passenger train derailment. They were returning from the state firemen’s convention in Durham. Today we remember FF Charles Barnett, FF William Barnett and FF Samuel Gorman.
