So grateful to have been part of #UCSD_LAUNCH this past year! I learned so much about setting up a lab, got valuable feedback on a grant I developed during the program, met some amazing colleagues, and made some awesome friends.

I stumbled upon THE BEST kids book on sleep by Jennifer Ward! 🤩 It has cute rhyming narratives paired with technical, but accessible, descriptions of different types of sleep. She’s even nuanced describing snakes having “resting” states. The technical summary at the end is 🤌.

First day of new, LATER high school start times ⏰ for our district! So happy to have served on the focus group and seen the largely favorable support for this evidence-based change. Parents are already stating their teens are waking up happier after starting an hour later!

Our paper just got covered by nature. We went under cover and contacted a "citation boosting" service. We managed to buy citations that appeared in a Scopus-indexed journal, providing conclusive evidence that citations can be bought in bulk!! nature.com/articles/d4158…

In our area, it’s essentially a requirement that you have played on youth travel teams just to play on your high school team. This means many families are spending a *minimum* of $10,000 and a ton of time for one kid to maybe play a single sport in high school.

I didn’t anticipate editing the lab’s first trainee abstract from the bathroom floor in the midst of 3-day-method potty training for K3, but here we are. But the abstract’s in great shape & K3 hasn’t had any accidents yet! Let’s gooooooooo!!

AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data. There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore. It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.

I’ve had a Traeger for a year now but haven’t attempted a brisket. It is time.
