This talk was AMAZING! Dr. Powell talking about the institutional conditions that simultaneously produce and erase sexual violence in juvenile detention. Bridging Black feminist theory w/ the sociology of punishment. Cannot wait to read the paper that comes out of this.

I really should have said we are hiring a tenure-track assistant professor of sociology specializing in quant methods/stats in the sense of being able to teach those classes. Check out the job ad for more careful language!

This reminds me: one of the interesting things about being on the other side and seeing the authorization and creation of job positions is how important filling teaching vacancies becomes for shaping the position/ad, while research and fit come in during the decision points.

My other favorite is the trails through the pine forests of the North Shore. Hilo loves these trails, too! He also gets to go swimming sometimes on these walks.

The hiking is great, though. Although sometimes pretty sporting and people do die regularly, which isn't great. The beaches are also great. My favorite is Kailua beach because it's super long and you can just walk on the beach for ~ a full hour.

I will say the climbing isn't as good as people expect it to be, but we have a really nice climbing gym that opened a year or so ago. I really like it. But there are crags around you can go to, but I tend to stick with the gym here.
