Today Gov Gavin Newsom delivered his 2nd State of the State—& it was my 2nd time attending on behalf of #AD15! His address emphasized our moment of urgency in CA. Our homeless neighbors cannot wait. The 1/4 who need behavioral healthcare cannot wait. Housing cannot wait—#CASOTS

I applaud Gavin Newsom for his commitment to addressing Californians’ full spectrum of needs—from physical & mental health care, to hunger, to a roof over one’s head where we can feel safe. It's all interrelated—we know that—our state should reflect that. x.com/cagovernor/sta…

I'm ready to keep walking the walk—& to continue working w/Gavin Newsom on our shared priorities—ending gun violence in our communities, increasing funding for schools, reforming our criminal justice system & ensuring we meet our climate change goals. Onward, California! #CASOTS

The CA Assembly is working w/Gov Gavin Newsom to ensure our public agencies have the resources needed to combat the emerging threat of #coronavirus (#COVID19). At this time, the risk to the public remains low—but you can still take precautions. More info👉🏻bit.ly/3a6jMCu

.Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks: #COVID illustrated the fragility of our social safety net - we cannot go back to normal! - we must use this crisis to build a new future that works for low-income Californians. #TheFutureIsUpToUs #EndChildPoverty #EndHungerNow

.Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks: The #COVID19 crisis has shown us the fragility of the social safety net system, including with inequity...The capitalist system that we live in and the fundamental redistribution of wealth needs to have a hard look. End Child Poverty in California #TheFutureIsUpToUs #EndHungerNow

Right now, CA hospitals planning on closing or downgrading services are only required to give 90 days notice — just 3 months for communities to voice their concerns, find alternatives for critical care, & make plans to adjust to meet their needs. This is simply not enough time.

And communities in my district know all too well the costs that come with hospital closures — we are still dealing with the loss of Doctors Medical in San Pablo — and Alta Bates in Berkeley, where I just delivered my second daughter, is under continued threat of closure.

Now, more than ever, communities deserve more time. My #AB2037 extends the notification period for hospitals planning to downgrade services, change services, or close, to 180 days — 6 months. Proud to share AB 2037 passed the Sen. Health Cmte! TY to Connie Leyva for presenting.

I am joining over 60 of my colleagues in calling for systemic change at EDD. We have seen little to no progress over the course of the pandemic & 1.13 million Californians are still waiting on benefits. The situation at EDD is unacceptable.
