Aug. 3, 1924: On the 10th anniversary of Germany’s declaration of war on France, a 2-minute silence is observed throughout Germany for their WWI dead. People stand reverently at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin and throngs watch President Friedrich Ebert pay homage at the Reichstag. 1/2

St. Symphorien Military Cemetery is located 2 km east of Mons, Belgium. Here, German and British casualties of the Battle of Mons lie side by side in a small space of peaceful reflection. Just under 230 Commonwealth and around 280 German soldiers are buried here; amongst the
