In its opinion column, The Standard notes we have a ‘strong case’ and wisely says: “City life is about give and take. Development is vital and must be viable, but affordable housing cannot be relegated to a ‘nice to have’.”

London is deeply unequal. Our capital is made up of a higher proportion of people on the highest incomes than anywhere else in England. It’s also made up of a higher proportion of people on the lowest incomes. Income inequality across London... 1/7

Although Wandsworth has the highest average income (excluding the City of London), there is a huge level of inequality. In Clapham Common West, the average household income is £108k - almost 3x higher than in Roehampton North West, just a few miles away in the same borough.

I think that digital literacy needs to become part of not just school curriculum but also work place training. I’ve seen colleagues radicalised by misinfo boomer memes & misunderstanding of how sources & video editing works. Now with Musk it’s more important given chaos on here.

The response to the incredibly moderate decision by David Lammy to suspend 30 arms licenses (to a country committing one of the worst crimes of the century) shows just how fringe the views of many people who have been allowed to masquerade as mainstream really are.

Was great to join colleagues from across local government at the launch of Southwark Council housing report Securing the Future of Council Housing. Important recommendations on funding, Right To Buy, decent homes and our revenue accounts #SaveCouncilHousing

🚨 Grenfell Inquiry report 🚨 - "Complacent" govt "well aware" of risk of cladding disaster but failed to act - "Systematic dishonesty" by product manufacturers "very significant reason" for fire - "Chronic and systemic" fire safety failures by tower's social landlords

The dark heart of this catastrophe lies in this simple, depressing narrative: the state stepped back, corporate greed stepped in and innocent people died. Bit by me for The Guardian: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Good to be out listening to local people in Balham today. Lots of appreciation for the hard work of great local councillor Jo Rigby. Wandsworth Labour delivers better services for all - with the lowest Council Tax in the country

Another huge turnout for Palestine in London today. The continued atrocities being committed by Israel in Gaza are rapidly spreading to the West Bank and only international pressure can put a stop to it. We have a moral duty.
