Breaking: UK government suspends some arms export licences to Israel. c30 out of c350 existing licences suspended relating to arms used in military operations in Gaza where clear risk of violation of international humanitarian law. But not blanket ban: most UK F35 parts exempt.

Am struck how few have welcomed limited UK suspension of arms to Israel. NGOs say it doesn't go far enough. Tories say it's political, to calm Labour MPs/conference. Israeli ministers say it boosts Hamas. US sources say privately it's unhelpful. So calibrated it pleases no one?
