The Jewish-to-WASP assimilation theme is so key to its reflection on cinema. This scene isn’t just the creation of Indiana Jones (or Schindler), but Sammy ask for Christmas lights in the first scene. His first train shoot he uses toys with keffiyehs, and ends shooting beach day.

Cannot express enough how much this mirrored my exact feelings, but apparently it's a full-on neo-western about an old WW2 veteran going on a crime spree. It's very "modern film culture" for a news drop to make it sound like that's the same thing as a true western, though.

Don’t really understand why the Something Wild high-school reunion sequence, where the The Feelies show up and Jeff Daniels does his goofy French New Wave-aping dance, aren’t more Film Twitter-core. Not to mention Ray Liotta and Melanie Griffith as the hottest people ever.

Killers of the Flower Moon playing wayyyy better the 2nd time. I still feel inherent narrative issues, but the film (which still had a ton to love) is transcending them. The Irishman went from great to masterpiece for me with that process, and this feels similar if still lesser.

My favorite Woo. Although I like a Better Tomorrow 3 even more, which might be a “most underrated film ever” candidate for me.

One of the great works of art in the past few decades, so one of the most underrated (and I am not at all someone who loves everything Refn does). You have to commit, but has anything taken down modern America this hard? Pagan anti-fascism. boxd.it/6a6hk3 What I wrote.

Watched Landscape Suicide and it immediately becomes one of my favorite things ever. Feels like all other “haunted Americana”, like Lynch or Hooper or Poe or Morrison, has happened in the first few layers of sleep, and then this is the REM cycle.
