Today I attended the scenes of two residential fires, one in Dagenham and the other in Poplar, both in blocks of flats known for their fire safety issues On the ground, I heard utter confusion as to how this could still happen 7 years after Grenfell theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

The Dagenham fire reminds us that the building safety crisis is unresolved. It is also a reminder of what happens when that state retreats from regulating the basics. Here it is housing. But we are seeing the fallout in our polluted water and creaking transport system too.

This community park was significantly reduced in size a few years ago due to Enfield Council's 'flagship' Meridian Water development, despite a lack of green space in the area. Now the council isn't maintaining it. We thought #MeridianWater was supposed to help local people

🚨 Grenfell Inquiry report 🚨 - "Complacent" govt "well aware" of risk of cladding disaster but failed to act - "Systematic dishonesty" by product manufacturers "very significant reason" for fire - "Chronic and systemic" fire safety failures by tower's social landlords

There will be a statement in the House of Commons at 1pm, as I understand. Let's hope its our new prime minister committing to bring those responsible to justice with the same gusto he shows for other criminals. We wouldn't want two tier policing now, would we.

"Crime prevention, safety, security, in particular concerns for the safety of lone women and young girls has not been addressed within the planning statement and the drawings offer more questions regarding the physical security of the proposed rooms/pods."

It comes as no surprise that the House emptied just hours after the judge announced the publication of the phase 2 report. It shows how many of those within the political elite are a part of the disregard, indifference and incompetence that contributed to the deaths of our 72.

My ITV analysis on the Grenfell report, a tragedy ultimately about power - about who has it and who doesn’t. In the sixth richest country in the world, in its capital city dripping with wealth, 72 people died because people with power didn’t do enough to stop it happening.

"To make renting genuinely safer, secure and more affordable, the new renters’ rights bill must limit in-tenancy rent increases, extend notice periods and root out discriminatory practices that drive homelessness.” Well said Polly Neate theguardian.com/money/article/…

Housing in London is absurd. Thousands of families without a secure home in temporary accommodation in hotels, whilst, as this article says, London also has the most Airbnb listings in the world (150,000+). We need to use homes as homes not hotels. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
