Forcing students through an academic discipline process because they were arrested with charges like, “suspicion of failing to disperse” is an affront to due process and free speech. It severely disrupts their lives and careers. It’s no wonder so many are outraged. 9/END

UCLA faculty have joined other groups of employees in filing an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the university. Think that's a first for UC faculty

We filed an Unfair Labor Practice against the UC to vindicate faculty rights to protest, organize, and exercise academic freedom. Come to the UAW 4811 rally at Murphy Hall today, 3pm, to hear us talk about it.

The heatwave condition prevailing in many regions is an extreme weather condition causing distress to people. I am saddened to learn of several deaths due to the extreme weather. It is heartening to note that the administration at various levels has responded to the situation

This crazy heatwave has been carrying on for 2 weeks! And completely unequal in its effects. Chatting informally with some workers, who shared that their houses have much less ventilation, and the locality is more cramped. Can't afford ACs either, hence no respite at night.

Having lived in Delhi 34 years, I've faced hotter days but can't recall it being relentless for so long. You can carry a 20-kilo load on your head for 10 minutes. But do it for 3 hours and it will take a toll on you. Humans, other species, and ecosystems can only take so much.
