Pirri-pirri-bur. Acaena novae-zelaniae. Introduced from NZ & Australia on wool. Forms mats to 15cm high. Stem: reddish & hairy. Leaves: 4-6 pairs, toothed leaflets, glossy dark above, paler below. Flowers: 4 greenish sepals, no petals. Fruits: barbed reddish spines #AutumnWatch
Beech. Fagus sylvatica. Keep a watch for the galls made by the midge, Hartigiola annulipes. They form a cylindrical gall up to 5mm with a variable amount of hairs. Each gall contains a white larva. #AutumnWatch
Bog Stitchwort. Stellaria alsine. Keep a watch for the rust fungus, Puccinia arenariae. Usually on leaves but stems can also be affected. #AutumnWatch
Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Noctua fimbriata. Larval food plants include Bramble, Cleavers, Common Nettle, Broad-leaved Dock and Dead-nettle species #AutumnWatch
Ground Ivy. Glechoma hederacea. Keep a look out for the rust fungus, Puccinia glechomatis which shows as raised brown dots on the underside of leaves, petiole and stems #AutumnWatch
